AIR MAUI HELICOPTER TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

Maui-Helicopter-Tour-1

Air Maui offers several different tour options from a complete island tour of Maui to a West Maui and Molokai tour to an oceanfront landing or cliffside landing tour. Each of our tours offers something special. Many people love our complete island tour because it gives them a unique perspective of Maui that is impossible to gain any other way. Seeing the island from the air is a magical experience; people who have lived on the island their whole lives can still see something new. Likewise, seeing the Molokai sea cliffs from the air is an experience not to be missed. Read below to learn more about some of the highlights of our various tours and to help you decide which one might be right for you.

Haleakala

Haleakala Crater is one of the most unique and beautiful landscapes of Maui. It is surreal to behold the moon-like landscape that is such a great contrast to the beaches and lush rainforests that cover such a large portion of the island. The cinder cone formations and shades of red and orange sand are particularly striking when seen from the air.

And flying up the slopes of Haleakala by helicopter sure beats driving! The drive to Haleakala is over two hours from most locations on Maui and due to some newer restrictions it has become more difficult to get passes up the mountain.

It is important to remember that Haleakala is often blanketed in clouds. If you are looking to see this landmark on your tour, make sure you plan for a clear day and remember that weather on Maui can be unpredictable and can change quickly!

Molokai Sea Cliffs

The sea cliffs of Molokai are the tallest sea cliffs in the world ranging from 3,600 to 3,900 feet above sea level. There are no roads that you can take to see these cliffs and no way to take in the sheer beauty that exists like seeing them from the air.

The sea cliffs are particularly amazing to behold after recent rain storms, as there are many waterfalls that cascade down the cliffs after a heavy rain. You may also catch a glimpse of a rainbow or spot a herd of goats which call the sea cliffs their home.

Waterfalls

Regardless of what tour you choose, a highlight of any tour is likely to be waterfalls. With an annual rainfall of about 400 inches in some locations on Maui, there are many beautiful waterfalls to see with some reaching over 1,000 feet in length.

From Hipuapua, Moa’ula and Papalaua waterfalls on Molokai, to the wall of tears hidden deep within the West Maui Mountains, to Kano and Wailua Waterfalls on Hana side (just to name a few) you won’t believe your eyes. Pictures do not capture the breathtaking nature of these falls, you just have to see them with your own eyes!

These are just a few of the tour highlights that you might experience flying with us. Some others include amazing rainbows, whale sightings, and our spectacular private landing sites. Here is what some of our guests have to say about their experiences:

“The weather was not perfect, but that didn’t prevent Captain Troy from finding ALL the best views – from completely circular, and impossible-to-capture, double rainbows, to myriad waterfalls cascading through the rainforest, to cinder cones in the Martian landscape that is Haleakala Crater, to Kahakuloa Head in West Maui! All in 60 minutes! I recommend you just sit back and enjoy the scenery with your very own eyes and then buy their video of the unobstructed views from their HD cameras that are mounted outside the aircraft! This was my 3rd time up with Air Maui. Hoping for many more in years to come. Pure love!” – A TripAdvisor Member

“This was my fourth helicopter tour (3rd in Hawaiian islands) and by far my favorite! The pilot we had, Troy, was exceptional and extremely skilled, let me tell you, it was FUN. He and the helicopter are like one. The cool thing about Air Maui is the pilots pick their own music playlist for the tours, and it was spot on to match the climactic moments approaching various waterfalls and flying over the sea cliffs of Moloka’i.” – Seaside10413459232

“Experience like no other! I teared up a few times during the flight, pinching myself at the sheer beauty of what I saw. If you are nervous of the fact that THERE ARE NO DOORS, don’t be. You immediately appreciate that you don’t have the restriction of the doors, free to take photos with nothing in the way. The moment they take you into the area with the waterfalls, you are surrounded by gorgeous green mountains, so close, you feel like you can reach out and touch it. Don’t forget to look down, on our way back we saw a Humpback Whale breaching over and over again, IT WAS ONE OF THE COOLEST THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN.” – XtinatequilaX
